This is the blog of the American Studies Program at the University of Bucharest. We have created this as a platform for discussion with our former and current students or with those about to become our students. Please feel free to ask questions, raise issues and come up with bright new ideas about how to make our program better.

"Offside: Soccer and American Exceptionalism" is one of "those" books; the kind of book whose impact on Americanists and sociologists was roughly the equivalent of a meteor hitting the Earth's surface. It's a genuine eye-opener, exposing the effects of the American mentality on the development of sports in the USA while comparing it to the European "way of the ball." This link: http://books.google.ro/books?id=OTZexfpmyDwC&dq=soccer+and+American+exceptionalism&pg=PP1&ots=VV7dFxRYk0&sig=AfPMQ9S7HhTdpJLdTTQS7VvKDEI&hl=ro&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=1&ct=result#PPA11,M1 offers a preview of the book. Sadly, it cannot be read entirely online, but it is available for purchase on Amazon.
